Goldy’s Breakfast Bistro

Goldy’s Breakfast Bistro is a small, but extremely popular, breakfast/lunch restaurant in the middle of Boise downtown.

So, whenever I eat breakfast at Goldie’s Breakfast Bistro, I end up commenting on my wish that they would move to a larger venue. Then I am reminded that they seem to be doing just fine where they are. Always busy, Goldie’s is not a restaurant that lends itself to a sense of leisurely dining. Busy and bustling with activity is the theme of the dining area. A little over crowded, but offering a meal that is worth every bit of inconvenience.

My meal was a fine example of what I feel Goldie’s does best. Scrambled eggs with house potatoes, maple sausage and a pancake. All cooked and seasoned exactly as they should be. Served with a very nice roast of coffee. My meal was nothing fancy and still special because it was done so very well.

For a breakfast that will always please, I have yet to be disappointed. Make sure to allow for a stroll around a historic neighborhood as you wait for a table.

I’ve been to Goldy’s 3 times now, and each time I have gotten something different. And each time I have been impressed. This time I got the Andalusian Eggs. It is a dish remeniscent of Shakshouka. A bowl of marinara, with ham, Basque chorizo, onions, bell peppers, and asparagus. All with two poached eggs on top. I ordered it not knowing what to expect, and I was delighted with what I received. The eggs were poached perfectly, with the yolks still slightly runny. The asparagus had been steamed nicely, and the marinara was clearly fresh made, with nice chunks of tomato and onion.

My only complaint would be the crowding. The venue is generally bustling and noisy. And wile the staff does their best to keep on top of things, the place is just very “busy” feeling. Goldy’s is extremely popular, and as a result there is always a wait for a table. I have only ever been seated immediately when arriving before 7 a.m., which is a bit early most days.

Goldy’s Breakfast Bistro is a great place to go on a special occasion. If you can, call ahead and get a reservation. And don’t plan on bringing a party of more than 4, there are no large tables. But it is well worth visiting — everything is delicious. You will not be disappointed.
